When I decided to become an entrepreneur I told my ideas to some people and many of them started calling me different ways: that I was crazy, that I was not being reasonable, that I should get a “proper” job, etc. All these comments of course had an effect on me and sometimes they pushed me away from my goals…
One of my mentors told me I should start listening to people who have achieved the results that I wanted and that now help other people to do the same. That´s when I started following different motivator speakers and started reading many of their books or audio books. That´s when I found Mr. Jim Rohn. I started listening many of his audio books and he has changed my life. Today, I want to share my 5 favorites Jim Rohn Quotes and explain what has been the impact they have had in my life and how they have changed me to set the right entrepreneurship mindset.
“Don´t wish it were easier, wish you were better.”
– Jim Rohn
I am one of those people who has followed the corporate ladder most of my life. I used to think that getting more degrees would give me more knowledge. I was wrong. Thinking in retrospective, what I got was information, but many times I didn´t know how to use it. Now, when I started my journey as an entrepreneur I realized that things do work, I just need to find a way to do them. I realized that I needed to improve some of my skills and learn new ones. I realized that being an entrepreneur means being in constant learning.
“Formal education will give you a living; self-education will give you a fortune.”
– Jim Rohn
This quote is related to the previous one. I realized that when getting many degrees I was getting ready to only work for someone else; I was becoming specialized in different areas to solve somebody else´s problems, never develop myself as an entrepreneur. It´s self-education, being constantly learning, what will take you to get the results that you want: more income, more freedom, etc.
“You must either modify your dreams, or magnify your skills.”
– Jim Rohn
When I was an employee I used to dream according to the size of my salary and free time I had; this usually made my dreams very small. When I started looking to start something on my own, when I discovered the network marketing industry and when I discovered how people actually made money leveraging the internet, that´s when I started dreaming again, and my dreams have become bigger and bigger. However, as I mentioned before, being an entrepreneur is not a “get-rich-quick” thing; it´s a journey and you need to develop new and different skills in order to reach those dreams.
“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”
– Jim Rohn
Many people think that becoming an entrepreneur is just setting up a company and that´s it. They don´t realize how much work has to be put in the beginning. When you start you have to study a lot, you have to learn new things, you have to develop different skills; these are some of the things people are not willing to do. Some of the comments I´ve heard is that they studied a career, and they don´t want to study any more. So, if they are not willing to make the sacrifice, they will have to settle for less. If they don´t want to fight for their dreams, nobody else will.
“If you really want to do something, you will find a way. If you don´t, you´ll find an excuse.”
– Jim Rohn
As you have a career and you are supposed to do a certain job, you usually don´t think on learning new things, you usually think you don´t know how to do it and somebody else might know how to solve a particular problem. In my journey so far I have discovered that I have to learn many things and I had to get used to the idea that doesn´t matter how, I need to find a way to do things. Even though I have a bachelors degree and two masters degree, I have to pay different trainings to get the skills I need and get things done.
Hope you resonated with these quotes and I hope these help you to get back on track to your goals. Being an entrepreneur is a journey, it is up to you if you make it worth it.
